Munger Cottage is the Town of Cornwall's Senior Community Center, located at 40 Munger Drive, Cornwall, NY. We offer daily senior classes at Munger Cottage & bus trips to various locations in the area departing from Idlewild Creek*. Please use the links below to view the schedules for the current month. July 15, 2024: As you may be aware, the HVAC system at Munger Cottage is no longer working and is beyond repair. Our Building Department has been keeping the current system running, making repairs and adding refrigerant as needed over the years, but it has now reached the end of its useful life. The Town Board authorized the complete replacement of the HVAC system at Munger Cottage last Tuesday, July 9th and hired a local company to handle the work. The parts for the new system have been ordered and will be installed as soon as they arrive.
As a precautionary measure, the Town’s Recreation Department will be cancelling daytime classes and programming at Munger Cottage on days when there is a heat advisory in effect.
The Senior Dining Program will be still be continuing and will take place in the small room at Munger Cottage which still has functioning AC.
* For residential services, please call the Recreation Department to schedule a pick-up.
Mission:
The mission of the Senior Center is to be a community focal point where older persons age sixty (60) and older can come together for services, socialization and activities which enhance their diginity, support their independence and encourage their involvement.
Programs and Services:
Ladies coffee group, Traveling Entertainment Troupe, Gentle Yoga, Line Dancing, Thursday Bridge, Crochet, Knitting, Embroidery, Mahjong, Cards, Bingo, Adult Coloring Group, Exercise, & Sing-a-Long.
Senior Group Meeting:
Golden Age Club, 12:30-3pm meets the 4th Friday of every month except July and August.
Travel:
Luncheons and day trips are organized to local restaurants and venues as well as periodic shopping trips to various shopping malls.
Library:
There are a variety of books that are donated to the center for reading enjoyment to keep or borrow.
Special Events:
Holidays parties, sing-a-longs and entertainment.
Orange County Office for the Aging Senior Dining Program:
An on site lunch program provided by OFA for all Orange County residents. Bus transportation provided for Town of Cornwall senior citizens. Health aides may accommodate anyone who requires assistance.Please call for additional information.
Health Promotion:
Health education classes provided by Orange County Office for the Aging by a Registered Dietitian/Certified Diabetes Educator. Topics and screenings on preventive health issues, weekly weight loss program, blood pressure screening and food demonstrations.
Tax Aide Program:
In Conjunction with Orange County Office for the Aging, a free income tax completion and filing for seniors by appointment beginning the first week of February.
Medicare Counseling:
Health Insurance Information, Counseling & Assistance Program (HIICAP). Services by appointment, provided by trained HIICAP counselors by Orange County Office for the Aging are available to answer question about Medicare, Medicare Advantage programs (managed care), Medicare prescription drug coverage, Medigap and other health and long term care insurance issues.
